1. We prefer to see in the first instance a full outline for non-fiction projects, or a short synopsis for fiction, and two or three sample chapters (the first two or three chapters are preferable) together with a covering letter giving an account of the background of the book and an account of the writer's career to date. (For more information about non fiction proposals, see our Frequently Asked Questions page.)
2. We do not accept submissions by fax or email.
3. Submissions should be typed in double spacing on one side of the paper only; they should not be bound (except with an elastic band), nor stapled.
4. We are normally only interested in representation of world rights in all media.
5. We prefer to read material exclusively. If other agents or publishers have read this material or will be reading this material at the same time, we need to know.
6. We cannot acknowledge receipt, and material will only be returned if it is accompanied by sufficient return postage, which should be securely attached to the submission (preferably on a stamped, self-addressed envelope). Please do not send cash or blank cheques. If you wish your material returned you should, in addition, state this clearly in your covering letter. Those submitting material should not expect or request its return by recorded delivery. We regret we are also unable to arrange for collection of material in person. If return postage is not provided the material will be shredded.
7. We make every effort to read material quickly, and aim to respond within 3 weeks of receipt of work.
8. We receive up to 100 submissions a week and it is impossible for us to offer editorial comments, feedback or suggestions about material rejected by us.
9. Authors should retain a copy of all material submitted to us. We cannot be held responsible for the loss of or damage to any typescripts or art work submitted to us.
