DotAbout the Children's Books Dept.

We specialise in representing writers and illustrators of work for babies and children of all ages up to 13 or 14. We have a keen eye for the marketplace and a good understanding of the publishing process. We love children's books for their directness, emotional truth and strong storylines.

We are always looking for arresting, truly original work. We enjoy stories with compelling narrative drive that keep us up until 3.00 a.m. and lyrical, sad stories that bring tears to our eyes. We love funny stories, whether it's the humour of character or situation. We love witty writing and a touch of English whimsy, too.

At the moment we'd love to find excellent writing for children of 6-7, and we sigh for heartbreaking love stories. We like fantasy very much, but it needs to be highly distinctive these days, to compete in a popular marketplace.

In short, we're open to all good children's writers, as long as your stories are individual and truly from the heart.

We are happy to look at work from illustrators and writers seeking an agent. If you are submitting written work please follow the submission guidelines on this website (see link above) which refer specifically to the children's department. If you are submitting illustration work please refer to our submission guidelines on the PFD illustrators' page (link below)
