Olly Hicks is one of the UK’s leading maritime adventurers.  At just 23 years old, he became the first person to row solo across the Atlantic from America to England as well as becoming the youngest person to row any ocean solo.

More recently Olly made an attempt to row solo around the world.  With sponsorship from Google and Virgin, Olly began his 20 month solo voyage. His goal was to row from Tasmania to South Georgia and on through the tempestuous Southern Ocean covering around 18,000 miles.

After 96 days at sea, a flaw in the boats design meant that the voyage had to be suspended.  He is still the first person to cross the Tasman Sea alone but he has not yet fulfilled his bigger goal. Olly produced a film ‘Tenacity on the Tasman’ documenting the crossing.  This was screened in the Leicester Square Odeon to over 1,200 people.

Olly is currently planning a solo kayak crossing from Iceland to Scotland, this will be another first and it will take all his accumulated experience from previous expeditions to succeed at this logistical and physical challenge with no margin for error.
