Theo Fennell is from an army family, educated at Eton and Byam Shaw and is now, probably the Britain’s best known jewellery and silver designer. He is the Founder and Creative Director of Theo Fennell PLC where he is responsible not just for product design, but every aspect of its style and personality, including art direction of store design, packaging, advertising campaigns, the website, catalogue, the showroom staff etc.
In 2007 Theo staged at exhibition at The Royal Academy of Arts, Burlington Gardens. Titled “ShowOff!”. He designed more than 70 installations and exhibits which ran across 5 exhibition halls. Placing the jewellery, contextually, at the centre of such extraordinary installation, Theo’s ambition was to change the contemporary perception of jewellery as mere commodity and for people to see it as he does; each piece a genuine work of art that will last long after everything else has gone.
In 2008 he founded The Original Design Partnership with a view to working with and mentoring young British designers. He acquired a gallery/studio space in Chelsea to exhibit his and their work. From these design studios The ODP provides anonymous product design and support services to companies who do not have access to the resources ‘in-house’; clients benefit from his expertise as an artist, creative thinker, innovator and marketeer. This new venture also makes it possible for Theo to be able to apply his prolific creative flair beyond his repertoire for jewellery and silver. To everything from interior design, book jackets, editorial, creative writing and, much to his delight, cricket commentating. He is currently preparing for his next exhibition.
He is a passionate advocate of British Bred Design talent and craftsmanship and has mentored several emerging designers, most recently with the RCA, NESTA and Mentoring Matters. Theo is a patron of Coutts London Jewellery Week, Platform and is active member of The Goldsmith’s Hall.
