Matthew Brzezinski served as Moscow Correspondent for the WALL STREET JOURNAL in the mid-1990s. His book on Russia's post-Communist chaos, CASINO MOSCOW, was published by the Free Press in 2001. Following the attacks on the US on 11 September, he covered homeland security as a contributing writer for the NEW YORK TIMES MAGAZINE. His book on the counter-terror effort and post-9/11 paranoia, FORTRESS AMERICA was published by Bantam in 2004.

He lives in New York and is at work on RED MOON RISING: The Story of a Little Satellite that Started the Space-Race and Gave Birth to a Wireless World, which will tell the story of the launch of Sputnik.
