Paul Thibodeaux is a handsome, laid-back young man married to Colette, the most beautiful woman in Tiger Island, the small Louisiana town where they grew up. For Paul, life is complete, with a wife he loves, machines to repair, and a lively local dance hall. But Colette is restless. Frustrated by Paul`s lack of ambition and his fondness for Friday night fistfights, and stifled in a town of dwindling opportunities, she sets off for California. Paul doesn`t give up, though, following Colette there and back, waiting to see if she`ll change her mind. How they come to discover what matters most in life makes for a novel that is at once an adventure story, a love story, and an elegiac portrait of the people and landscapes of Cajun country. With wit and compassion, Tim Gautreaux writes with a sharp eye for the details that make us who we are, wherever we are. |
