Yazmine's first play, A FEW WEEKS AWAY, was workshopped at the Royal Court and toured London in 1982, produced by the Playwrights' Co-operative. Her next play, ROLE PLAY, was produced at the Royal Court Young People's Theatre. YOU'RE IT was mounted at the Half Moon Theatre in 1983 and WINNERS was produced at Theatre Centre in 1984. In 1989 and 1991 Yazmine dramatised THE CARNIVAL KITE and ANANSY, DOG & OLD DRY SKULL for BBC Radio. In 1991 Yazmine won the Thames Television Writers Stage Scheme Award for her play RESUREECTION SHUFFLE. She was Writer in Residence for the Talawa Theatre Company in 1993. SHADES OF BLACK followed at the Roundabout Theatre in Nottingham in 1990. WATTLE AND DAUB was produced at the Solent Theatre, Southampton in 1994 and CENTURY was produced in 1995 by New Moves Entelechy. In 1994 her short film, GET ME TO THE CREMATORIUM ON TIME, was broadcast on BBC 2. Her most recent play, UNFINISHED BUSINESS, was shortlisted for the 1999 Susan Smith Blackburn Award. |
