Richard is a freelance travel writer and author. His current ongoing 'gigs' - some call it 'gainful employment' - include being the Adventure Travel Editor of the Daily Telegraph, Editor of Outdoor Enthusiast Magazine and ghost writer for the adventurer and explorer, Bear Grylls. No stranger to the buzz of adventure himself, he has served as an army officer and is a self-confessed adrenalin junkie. In the line of duty he has kayaked, cycled, scuba dived, bungee jumped, flown a paraglider or ridden a horse on all seven continents. Favourite adventures include riding a bicycle coast-to-coast across America, shaking hands with General Amin, riding a horse over the Andes, paragliding with eagles in Brazil, crewing a Whitbread Round the World yacht, dog mushing on the Yukon Quest trail, and running a hotel in a cloud forest in Colombia. After the success of Born Survivor which reached Number 4 in the Sunday Times best-seller list, Richard is currently working on a third book for Bear Grylls while his second, Gold of the Gods, an adventure novel for children, will be published in June, 2008. Richard is the co-author of The Daily Telegraph Adventurous Traveller, has a reputation as an inspiring public speaker, and has presented two hour-long adventure travel documentaries for the Discovery Channel in their series, Trailblazers. |
