Field Maloney worked in the fiction department at The New Yorker and is a regular contributor to that magazine as well as Slate, The New York Times' City Section, and Gourmet Magazine, among other publications. He is currently at work on CRUSH: A Clerk's Tale -- a clerk's-eye view of the wine world -- from the store aisle, to the industrial cellar of a Napa winery to his own mini-vineyard on the slopes of his parents' cider farm in western Massachusetts, which Reagan Arthur at Little, Brown will publish in the US. Canongate will publish the book in the UK. |

Following the trial of American wine and its more colourful figures, from the colonial era to the modern-day, from east to west and from grape to glass, what does the story of American wine, as it is lived today, tell us, and where is it leading us? To what extent is this new way of wine an index of the larger culture? The book will be a humorous and accessible account of how Field "fell into wine" and "a chronicle of a contemporary pilgrimage - from vine to grape to barrel to bottle - a Clerk's Tale". |
