Simon Nicholson has written for film, theatre and television. Recently, he has worked extensivly in children's TV, writing many episodes of popular series from BOB THE BUILDER to TRACY BEAKER. He also works in schools in association with Creative Partnerships, working with teachers and children on storytelling.

Simon has also written his first children's novel.

1993-2002
Simon's first commissioned script for film and TV was the script for WARGAME, a half hour special made by Illumination Films, based on the book by Michael Foreman. Broadcast internationally, it has won numerous awards, including The Youth Jury Award at the Reel to Reel International Film Festival, the Bronze Prize at Tehran International Animation Festival, The Golden Prize for the Best Animation Film at the Cairo International Film Festival for Children 2003.

Simon's other early screen writing credits include many episodes for THE HOOBS (Jim Henson) and FIMBLES (CBeebies). He also developed and wrote pilot scripts for new comedy and children's TV shows with Aardman and Carlton Television.

Simon also devised and produced (with Penny Lawrence) an original children's comedy-factual series THE INVESTIGATORS, which ran for three years on Channel Four. Simon was nominated for Bafta and RTS awards.

In theatre, Simon's writing includes several music-theatre pieces written with composer Gary Carpenter: CHINA SONG (Plymouth Theatre Royal); FLEA CIRCUS (Liverpool Philharmonic Hall) and DOGGONE (BAC). He also wrote a children's version of THE MAGIC FLUTE for the Unicorn Theatre for Children. He won the Herbert Kretzmer Award for Best Lyricist in 1998.

Simon's career began as a theatre director, working as an assistant director at the Royal Shakespeare Company with Howard Davies, Gale Edwards, Stephen Pilmott and Tim Albery. He went on to direct several successful productions including BIG BABY (Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester).
