THE TRIUMPH OF THE WEST

ORION PUBLISHING (16 Aug 01)

An illuminating and authoritative account, greatly expanded from a 13-part television series, of the history of western civilization from its earliest roots. J.M. Roberts uncovers what it was that gave European culture its confident energy for so many centuries while exposing its flaws and its irreversible impact on the rest of the world.

THE TWENTIETH CENTURY

PENGUIN (18 Oct 99)

The Twentieth Century places a chronological narrative of events in the context of the long-term changes that coloured them. Among these are worldwide increases in life expectancy; major strides in science and technology; the radical reconfiguration of the global economy; vanished empires, shrunken white hegemony, and reassessment of "western" civilization; and the ever-evolving role of women.
